Observation Narrative
This plot captures an interior vegetation patch dominated by Nuphar advena, which is associated with two branches of a drainage channel near the end of transect #4. Here Nuphar mixes with Zizania aquatica, which dominates much of the surrounding marsh area. Adjacent to the interior side of the plot and extending downstream is a large (ca. 1 ha), irregularly shaped patch of Acorus calamus. The edge of the plot was moved ca. 2 m from the boardwalk on the downstream side to minimize disturbance to seven sedimentation tiles. One corner of the plot falls within slough, where surface water is ca. 1 m deep some three hr after unusually high low tide following Hurricane Dennis.
